Project Title: Kamioshi
Team/Game Name: Kamioshi devteam
Initially, I began my project by brainstorming and developing my own game concepts. However, I ultimately decided to join a group project, recognizing the benefits of collaboration in fostering creativity, teamwork, and broader perspectives. This decision led me to contribute to Lotta’s game idea, Kamioshi, which has since evolved into a detailed and engaging concept.
The in-depth research and development process for this project can be accessed here.
Kamioshi is a 2D interactive narrative simulation game about supporting your favourite pop idol, exploring themes of obsession, devotion, and the complexities of fandom. The player is a nameless and faceless young adult protagonist who becomes enamoured with a singer in an idol group. They must do their best to balance work and fan activities in order to reach their goals of being the best, most supportive fan. The game immerses players in the vibrant world of J-pop idol culture, combining day-to-day simulation mechanics with interactive storytelling. The game balances the joyful aspects of fandom with a subtle critique of infatuation, encouraging players to reflect on their relationship with admiration and obsession.
The gameplay of Kamioshi invites players to earn money through jobs, engage in fan-related activities at home, and make choices that ultimately shape the outcome of their journey. Multiple endings provide a spectrum of experiences, from healthy admiration to all-consuming obsession.
The aesthetics of
Kamioshi
will aim to capture a juxtaposition of the cute and feminine vs darker horror elements in order to highlight the best and worst parts of a highly involved and often parasocial relationship between an idol and their fans.
