The gameplay of Kamioshi consists of text-based narrative and interactive activity segments. The game is structured in several sections, henceforth referred to as ‘chapters’, each with its own goal to complete. Goals include achieving particular stats or performing certain actions within the given time frame of in-game days.
Stats
In Kamioshi the player has two main stats to manage; Money ($) and Dedication (♥). Money is earned by doing work and, besides being necessary for most goals, can be used to purchase idol merchandise. Dedication is a measure of the player’s love for their idol, and is earned by doing fan activities.
There is also an additional Stability stat which is only affected by some actions taken by the player. These actions will be more extreme choices, helping the player achieve their goals under the pressure of a deadline but having adverse consequences.
Bedroom (Landing Screen)
The bedroom screen is where the player begins each day. Here they can view their stats and information about the narrative. This is also where they decide which activity to choose for that day.
Additional Scope Content:
In the bedroom, the player can access their phone to view social media posts their idol has made.
The player may customise some aspects of their bedroom’s decor such as the colour of furniture. Additionally, the room has a shelf where any idol merchandise the player buys can be displayed.
Narrative Segments
Kamioshi features a text-based narrative following the journey of the protagonist as they support their idol.
The key points of the story are told at the start and end of each chapter, explaining the narrative events of that chapter. These sections will include player choice moments which can impact elements of the story, including details about the life and personality of their chosen idol and the protagonist’s own personal life.
There will also be shorter narrative sections at the end of each day. These will act more as scene setting, giving additional context and life to the events of the game. They may include player choice depending on when in the story they take place.
